This piezoceramic sensor is used for detecting structural vibrations in spark ignition internal combustion engines resulting from damaging abnormal uncontrolled combustion (aka: Knock, Pinking, Detonation and or Preignition).

Mounting:
The mounting surface is critical. It must be clean and properly machined to provide a secure flush mounting to ensure correct coupling of the sensor to the block. Secure the sensor wires in a manor that prevents unwanted resonance and vibration being recorded by the sensor. The signal is tiny, so route the sensor wires accordingly (away from noisy electrical signals).
